Parent Infant Preschool

The Ohio School for the Deaf can be a resource and support system for deaf and hared-of-hearing infants, toddlers, and preschoolers enrolled in a local program. The Outreach Coordinator can provide information and support to parents, teachers, professionals, and programs. Services are funded by the Ohio School for the Deaf.

Parent Infant Preschool Coordinator
Janet Lineberry is the PIP Coordinator
at the Ohio School for the Deaf.
She has worked with deaf children
and their families for over 15 years.

The Parent Infant Preschool Coordinator can:

  1. Provide information on deafness related resources available to parents and educators in Ohio and nationally.

  2. Advise preschool teachers on how to adapt their classrooms and/or home visits to eet the needs of the deaf or hard of hearing child.

  3. Offer workshops or inservice training about deafness to early intervention or preschool teachrers.

  4. Help Early Intervention (EI) programs, preschools, and families make contact with deaf adults.

  5. Coordinate annual Family Learning Weekends (FLW) for families with deaf or hard-of-hearing infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

  6. Refer families to the Deaf Mentor Program

  7. Refer families to the Shared Reading Project

  8. Participate in transition planning for children moving from early Intervention to Preschool programs.

  9. Inform families and professionals about OSD Outreach Services

  10. Refer parents to local services for their deaf or hard-of-hearing child.

Ohio School for the Deaf Mission

The mission of the Ohio School for the Deaf is to provide deaf and hard-of-hearing students in Ohio with a comprehensive education which encourages independence and life-long learning, promotes social and cultural awareness, and prepares students to attain their potential and become contributing members of their communities. This commitment to deaf and hard-of-hearing students applies not only to the students enrolled at the Ohio School for the Deaf, but to all deaf and hard-of-hearing students within the state.
