Transition Services

The transition services department at OSD work with students 14 and older in preparation for life after high school. (Post secondary training, employment, Independent Living, Community Participation). The process starts during the IEP when a child turns 14. Transition is discussed annually at the child’s IEP meeting. In collaboration with the student life department, transition trainings are offered after school as well.

Janet Donnell, IEP Coordinator - Follows the school calendar. She works with each of our students during the IEP to start the discussion on transition. Martha Anderson, Youth Leader/Transition Specialist - Martha works with our students in preparing for independent living, learning about community resources during the after school hours.  She also serves as our senior apartment living experience advisor.  Follows the school calendar. Nancy Swisher, Career Assessment Specialist /4+ Program Coordinator -Nancy is our certified career assessment specialist , she not only works with our students in completing their career assessment, she is available to  provide career assessments/consultation to deaf/hard of hearing students and their local school districts.  In addition, Nancy works with our 4+ students as they start their journeys with off campus employment & living experiences.  Nancy follows the school calendar. Melissa Lago-Jones, Career Development TeacherMelissa  teaches the career development class.  She works with students of all ages to learn more about educational and career options. She assists student in developing skills in decision making, goal setting, work habits and attitudes. These skills are developed through career exploration activities as well as classroom integration activities.  All high school students leave the course with a career portfolio that highlights all of the career exploration activities learned during the year as well as a personal resume. Melissa follows the school calendar.
